My Tim Cook Story

Back in 2013, we got a class set of the original iPad mini, marvelling at its affordability and convenient form factor.

However, we started hitting an issue with charging: it would only charge to 80% and then stop, and then weirdly the chargers themselves (diddly iPhone plug one) would stop working and would only start working if they were physically unplugged from the wall and plugged back in again.

Strange.

I reported this to our Apple reseller, who then passed it up the chain in Apple, to then be told that it was a known issue and that nothing could be done.

I wasn’t happy.

The charging of iPads in a school is quite key, and physically unplugging all the chargers from within a storage cabinet every day wasn’t going to be fun.

So, in my exasperation, I penned an email to Mr Cook himself, explaining our predicament and imploring for assistance.

A few days later I received a phone call from the Executive Office of Apple, telling me that an upcoming software update would fix it. Which it did!

The guy really does read all the emails from customers, delighted or otherwise.

Thank you Tim Apple!
