I ran the betas of macOS 27 from straight after WWDC26 and immediately noticed lots of delightful little improvements. As you’re not meant to publicly share about the beta before it’s released, I instead made some notes for myself as I knew I’d forget about them by the autumn. So here’s the list:
- Ethernet menu bar icon. Plug in that cable and the WiFi icon turns to the Ethernet one. Delightful.
- Glassy Liquid Glass. I don’t know how they did it, but the glassy icons actually look like glass now. It’s a lovely call back to OSX Aqua, particularly the window controls.
- Window focus. They’ve made it way more obvious which window is the active one.
- Rounded window corners. All the same, echoing the rounded MacBook Pro display but not too kiddy like on iPadOS.
- Search in Mail. Much better.
- Menu icons. Added when needed, but not enforced and only when they make sense. There’s also the rule that a block of menu items should all have an icon if any of them have it.
